Still from A Leaf's Sea Road: a white porcelain tea bowl against a mottled wall Watch

A tea leaf leaves the Thirteen Factories in Guangzhou, crosses the sea, and arrives in London. In a hundred and nineteen seconds, it never says a word.

The project page collects six edit versions: from a ninety-five-second rough cut to the final hundred and nineteen second score, the nine seconds given to a new opening, the ten given to a new ending, and the old timeline pushed back to make room.

About

I’m Cynthia. I study history education and make films.

What I care about when making something is whether it gets said clearly, not whether it looks busy enough. Slow pacing, empty space, and the details you only find on the second look.

Three things on my desk right now: a two-minute film tracing one leaf halfway around the world, the last of a three-episode documentary series on the Nanhai No. 1 wreck, and a poster series still unfinished.
